This iconic viewpoint is one of Alberta’s must-see landscapes. I first experienced Peyto Lake in winter, with the snow-covered Bow Glacier overlooking the birthplace of the Bow River — one of Calgary’s defining waterways. At the time, I didn’t know I would one day paint this scene.
Now, as a proud Albertan, creating this piece felt like an opportunity to immerse myself again in that remarkable landscape. What drew me most was the range of greens woven through the mountains and the shifting play of light and shadow across the slopes — details that made this painting both challenging and rewarding to create.
