I’ve walked past this tree in Calgary’s Bowness Park many times. It isn’t a remarkable tree. Tall, yes. Solitary, perhaps. But at dusk, it catches the last rays of light in ways that invite the imagination.
This finished painting looks nothing like the reference photo I took on one of those walks. Somehow — and this is what I love about painting — the process took over and led me to create a tree that became a being of its own. I celebrate it.
