What is a mountain without a valley? What is a summit without a base camp? What is a climb without a descent?
I think about these questions often. A mountain has never felt like a destination to me. It is an ecosystem of ridges, valleys, glaciers, forests, weather and silence—each element depending on the others. Remove one, and the mountain becomes something else entirely.
The title, First Among Equals, comes from that thought. One summit may rise above the rest, but it is only one part of a landscape where every peak, valley and slope belongs. Its prominence exists because of everything around it.
