Original Landscape Painting | 16" x 20" | Acrylic on Canvas
The Moment
Some landscapes don’t need colour to be powerful.
They hold their presence in form, in light, in the way they stand—unchanged, unmoved.
This piece is about that kind of presence.
The Story Behind the Piece
The Three Sisters is a more restrained interpretation of one of the most iconic formations in the Canadian Rockies.
I chose to strip the palette back and work in a monochromatic range, allowing the focus to shift entirely to structure—how the peaks rise, how light catches their edges, how shadow defines their weight.
This piece was shaped by a winter hike in -16°C.
There’s a particular kind of stillness in that kind of cold. The air sharpens. Sound fades. And everything feels more immediate, more grounded.
I wanted that feeling to carry into the painting.
The surface was built up gradually, letting the forms emerge through light and shadow rather than colour. It’s a slower viewing experience—the kind where the image reveals itself the longer you sit with it.
